A Weekend Getaway to Mt. Lemmon
Sometimes you need more than a day trip — you need to wake up in the pines. A weekend getaway to Mt. Lemmon means two full days of cool mountain air, forest trails, and cabin comfort, all at 8,000 feet above the desert. Whether you drive up from Tucson, Phoenix, or farther, the mountain has everything a weekend needs.
At the heart of it all is Mt. Lemmon Hotel in Summerhaven — 21 fully private cabins with full kitchens, no shared walls, and the whole mountain as your backyard. Here is everything you need to plan the perfect weekend on Mt. Lemmon.
Where You're Coming From
From Tucson
45 minutes from northeast Tucson up the Catalina Highway — the classic quick escape.
From Phoenix
About 3 hours via I-10 and the Catalina Highway — the Valley's favorite cool retreat.
Why a Cabin Beats a Hotel Room
Weekends are better with space. Each of our cabins is a private home in the pines — full kitchen, separate bedrooms, and a front porch with mountain air. Cook breakfast before a hike, grill dinner after, and let the dogs roam the on-site dog park. Twelve of our 21 cabins welcome pets (up to 3, no pet fee).

A Classic Weekend Rhythm
Saturday — Play
- Morning hike on Aspen Draw, Marshall Gulch, or the Arizona Trail
- Lunch at the General Store or Iron Door
- Afternoon at Rose Canyon Lake — fishing or a shoreline stroll
- Sunset from Windy Point or another overlook
Sunday — Ease Out
- Slow coffee on the deck with mountain views
- A last wander through Summerhaven village
- Fudge and gifts at the General Store
- Easy drive back down the Catalina Highway
Weekends in Every Season
Summer
The cool escape: 30 degrees cooler than Tucson or Phoenix. Hike shady trails, nap in the pines, and sleep with the windows open. Evenings are jacket weather.
Fall
Golden aspens peak mid- to late October along the highway and in Aspen Draw. Crisp days, clear skies, and the best color show in southern Arizona.
Winter
Real snow at the summit. Ski Valley, sledding hills, snowshoe trails, and woodstove cabin evenings. Carry chains — the summit averages 180 inches of snow a year.
Spring
Melting snow, wildflowers, and quiet trails. The mountain wakes up green while the desert below starts to bake.
