Krieger Conradt — Photographer of Mt. Lemmon
Some people come to Mt. Lemmon for the cooler temperatures. Some come for the hiking. Others come for the views. Krieger comes looking for all three — and brings a camera along.
Krieger Conradt — photographer of Mt. Lemmon, still hiking strong in his mid-70s.
A Lifelong Adventurer
One of our favorite people to photograph Mt. Lemmon is a lifelong adventurer who grew up in the small town of Walla Walla, Washington, and has called Arizona home for the past 35 years. During all those years, Mt. Lemmon has been a special place for him. He has been making the trip up the mountain for decades — exploring its trails, watching the seasons change and, of course, photographing everything along the way.
Adventures Around the World
He has always had a passion for hiking and photography, and his adventures have taken him far beyond Arizona. Among his favorite hikes in the world are the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Everest Base Camp and the Otter Trail in South Africa.
But you don't have to travel halfway around the world to find a great adventure. Some of his favorite local hikes are right here on Mt. Lemmon, including the Meadow Trail and the Mt. Lemmon Trail Loop. And if you have ever wondered who is out there capturing those incredible mountain landscapes, wildlife, flowers and little moments that make Mt. Lemmon so special — there is a good chance he has been there with his camera. See our Mt. Lemmon hiking guide to explore the same trails he loves.
Still Hiking Strong in His Mid-70s
What makes his story even better is that he is doing all of this in his mid-70s. In fact, he probably hikes and takes more photographs in a single week than most people under 50 do in an entire year.
The Camera in His Pack
For years, he relied on traditional SLR cameras to capture his adventures. These days, his primary camera is something much more portable — a Google Pixel 10 Pro. It turns out the best camera isn't always the biggest one. Sometimes it's simply the one you have with you when the light is perfect, a deer steps onto the trail, a storm rolls across the Catalina Mountains or the afternoon sun hits the trees just right.
Capturing What Makes Mt. Lemmon Special
His favorite subjects are the things that make Mt. Lemmon what it is: landscapes, nature and animals — the same wildlife that roams the mountain's forests and meadows. We feel lucky that he continues to share those moments with us. Curious what he photographs out there? Browse our wildlife guide for a taste of the mountain's residents.
Watch Krieger's Videos
Krieger also shares his adventures on his YouTube channel, KriegerTucson — short video postcards from Mt. Lemmon, the Catalina Mountains and beyond. Every winter he films the Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show, one of the world's largest gatherings of its kind. Subscribe and follow along — you might just spot your favorite mountain in the background.
Because Mt. Lemmon isn't just a place you visit. It's a place you explore, a place you keep coming back to, and — if you're lucky — a place you never stop discovering. And we're especially lucky to have someone who keeps capturing it for all of us.
Here's to many more miles on the trail, thousands more photographs and plenty of Mt. Lemmon adventures still ahead.
Submit Your Photos & Videos
Krieger is not the only one out there with a camera. Some of the best photos of Mt. Lemmon come from guests standing on a cabin deck at sunrise, or from hikers who happened to be in the right place when the aspens turned gold. If you have a shot or a video from the mountain that you are proud of, we would love to see it.

What happens after you send it?
Every submission lands in our inbox and gets read by a real person. If we would like to use your photo, we will reply to confirm and to ask how you would like to be credited. If we cannot use it this time, we may still keep it on file for a future season or blog post — and we will tell you either way. We are a small team running 21 cabins, so replies can take a few days.
Do you pay for guest photos?
No. Guest submissions are shared with credit rather than purchased. If you are a professional photographer or videographer looking for paid work, say so in your email and tell us your rates — we would rather have that conversation up front.
